Arrival and check in times at departure stations in Bangkok
When travelling from Bangkok to Surat Thani, I would suggest arriving between 15 minutes to 30 minutes prior to the check in time stated on your pre-booked ticket. This will allow you time to check that you have everything needed ahead of travelling and also avoid any queues that may occur, as well as ensuring that you don’t miss your trip.

Check in times for travelling by bus are between 30 and 60 minutes earlier than the departure time which you have booked online. Before making the commute you will need to double check this information on your ticket as it depends on which travel operator you have chosen to make the commute with.

There is no stated time for check in when travelling by train, however, you will need to pick up your official boarding pass at the check in point so arriving 30 minutes prior to the departure time which you have booked would be the best thing to do.

If you are travelling by flight, the latest check in times are 45 minutes to 1 hour prior to the departure time stated on your ticket, depending on which airline you choose to take the commute with.

Depending on which travel operator you have chosen to go with when travelling by taxi, there is either no time check in time stated on your ticket or you are needed to check in 30 minutes prior to your departure time. If you are late to the pick up time stated or a no show, additional charges will occur.

Luggage allowance for each form of transport
Most buses from Bangkok to Surat Thani allow each passenger to travel with 1 piece of hand luggage and 1 piece of checked in luggage weighing no more than 20kg, to confirm these details you will need to check your booking confirmation.

There are no stated luggage allowances when travelling by train, however, be considerate that there are other people using this form of transport, so storage space may be limited.

When travelling by flight, checked in luggage is not always included in the ticket price. Most flights allow each passenger to take 1 piece of hand luggage on board, weighing no more than 7kg. If you purchase checked in luggage, this can vary between one or two pieces weighing no more than 20 kg.

If you have booked to get from Bangkok to Surat Thani by taxi, you are allowed to take 1 piece of luggage with you. If this is oversized or you have more than one, you will need to inform 12Go as this could incur an additional charge.

Additional information when travelling by train
When travelling by train, the voucher you will receive when booking a ticket online with 12Go is not your valid ticket. Once you arrive at the train station you will have to pick up your boarding pass when you go to check in.

The cheapest way to make the commute from Bangkok to Koh Phi Phi with the least amount of transfers, making it a lot more convenient, is with bus then ferry costing as little as $56 per person. You can book this option online through 12Go.

Quickest way to travel from Bangkok to Koh Phi Phi
The fastest way to get from Bangkok to Koh Phi Phi is via a flight and ferry as this choice in route can take less than 2 hours in travel time. However, please remember that this time does not include the waiting time between the two types of transportation. Book your tickets now for;

  • Bangkok to Koh Phi Phi via Phuket

Arrival and check in times at departure stations in Bangkok
These are the times you will need to arrive at your departure station in Bangkok ahead of check in for your trip to Koh Phi Phi;

Bus and ferry or bus, van and ferry
The latest check in time for these types of trips is 1 hour before the stated departure on your ticket. However, saying this I suggest you arrive 30 minutes before the latest you are allowed to check in to ensure that you have everything ready to travel and avoid any queues.

Flight
You need to have checked in for your flight at the latest 2 hours before the stated time of departure on your ticket. Arriving at the airport 30 minutes to 1 hour before this would be a great idea as it allows you to make sure everything is in order before you have to check in.

Ferry

When travelling by ferry you need to be checked in and ready to board 30 minutes before you are due to depart. Giving yourself some extra time before check in is always good to make sure you have everything ready to travel, so arriving at the departure station 15 to 30 minutes ahead of the latest check in time would allow you to do this.

Luggage allowance for each form of transport

Bus and ferry or bus, van and ferry
Depending on which travel operator you book with you are either allowed 1 piece and hand luggage alongside 1 big piece of luggage weighing up to 20kg or just 1 piece of big luggage weighing up to 20kg with the option of filling it to 30kg at an extra cost.

Flight
Similar to the above luggage allowance, when travelling via flight depending on which travel operator you book through there may be some variations, however most flights allow you to book on or purchase 2 pieces of hand luggage and 2 pieces of check in luggage. Please check the finer details ahead of booking your flights online.

Ferry
Some of the ferries do not have the luggage allowance stated as they say there is enough room for everyone to take what they need with them, although others keep it to a minimum of 20kg. To be considerate of other passengers onboard I would suggest not over packing and sticking to the weight allowance that some ferries state.

Adventure along the Koh Phi Phi Viewpoint
This hike provides you with some of the best and most breathtaking views that these islands have to show off. There are three main viewpoints along the trail overlooking the vibrant landscape of Phi Phi. You will have to pay an entry fee for these viewpoints but don’t let that put you off from soaking up these awe-inspiring moments.

Take a boat tour
During this activity you will be able to admire many highlights of Phi Phi, such as the famous Maya Bay, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach and more! If you book a speedboat tour you will see more sites in a shorter space of time, however, if you are looking for a more relaxed experience make sure to book a sunset tour.

Dive into the underwater world
Phi Phi has so much to see within its turquoise crystal clear waters. They have an epic array of marine life as well as beautiful coral and reef spectaculars to witness. Some main diving spots to explore are King Cruiser Wreck, Anemone Reef and Shark Point. You also have the opportunity to learn the basics of scuba diving through one of the courses on offer with certain dive centres.

Dance at an island party
To let loose after a fun filled day discovering the beauty of Phi Phi check out one of the well known island parties such as, Ibiza Pool Party or Princess Pool Party. These can go on all through the night until morning and sometimes continue during the day, with live DJs and most of the time free entry.

Catch a sunset
No trip would be complete to these gorgeous islands without seeing a wonderful sunset. Watch as the sky is set on fire with the electrifying colours from the sun as it goes down. This is a fantastic way to end one of your days, if not all, during your visit to Phi Phi.
